March- April 2016
March saw some of our New Malden team visit the feeding programme and the Kindergarten Heidi, Jenny, Mandy and Heather made full use of their extra baggage allowance (Thank you to BA for your generous extra baggage allowance) delivering donations galore direct to Sally! Heidi wrote on her return: Our trip to Kibera in March was an inspiration to us all. The progress since my last visit was stark and the daily running of the Angel Kindergarten by Sally and the amazing women teachers, chefs and teaching assistants was a wonderful example to us all. The joy that the children experience at school playing with their friends, singing in assembly, learning, eating a hot lunch, it was so special to be able to share in it , even for a few days.
Every child and school that supports lunchbowl can rest assured the children are not only getting the most amazing education but we are feeding their hearts and souls too! We loved joining in with assembly, zumba and cake decorating. Celebrating their birthdays and seeing their faces as they opened the many gifts donated by supportive organisations and businesses here was a joy and honour for us too.Its enabled us to return to the Uk and report back the many many ways that the children at the Angel are being so blessed by their supporters in the UK.
We have 3 new classroom assistants at our Kindergarten who are very happy to join our team,Nancy, Diana and Jimia will start working with the children in April.Just before term ended the children received worming medicine not something they enjoy taking but it proved very successful in eradicating what can be a dangerous part of life in Kibera.
Our next term promises to be full of new developments and we are very much looking forward to Nurse Rebecca joining our team. She will be organising some medical camps for our children including eye tests, vaccinations, dentistry and first aid training, she will be a huge asset to our team.
Welcome Rebecca and thank you for volunteering to help!
